Have you heard of the Beige Book? If you are trying to make sense of the current stock market roller coaster, this resource sheds light on dynamics and emerging trends that may not be readily apparent through data alone - important context in a rapidly shifting landscape.
Published eight times a year, the Beige Book or Summary of Commentary on Current Economic Conditions, is a collection of anecdotes about the U.S. economy collected by the staff at all of the different Federal Reserve banks. The information is collected from a wide range of business and community contacts through a variety of formal and informal methods, and complements other forms of regional information gathering. Sources might include reports from Bank and Branch directors, plus phone and in-person interviews with and online questionnaires completed by businesses, community organizations, economists, market experts, and others. The Beige Book is not a commentary on the views of Federal Reserve officials.
