Configuring Third Iron's LibKey

There are a number of options to consider if you've purchased Third Iron's LibKey. The individual components are broken down below and institutions can implement the ones that work best for their needs. The OhioLINK subscription to LibKey runs on the calendar year and  includes Discovery (runs on BrowZine API), LibKey Link, Nomad, and io.

First step, Set up Your Account

1. Setup your Third Iron account using the account setup form. For the Title Search URL Result and the ISSN Search URL Result, Third Iron wants the institution to run a search for ‘lancet’ from the Publication Finder interface for a title and ISSN, and provide the resulting URL for the search results pages. 
2. As part of the set-up process ask Third Iron to work with EBSCO and set up auto-holdings to automatically sync with your Holdings Management (Full-Text Finder).
3. Don't forget to contact OPALHelp and request that your EZProxy include support for LibKey.

Options

You may also request LibKey Discovery, which organically integrates the power of LibKey into your EBSCO EDS discovery by providing context-driven links within the EDS using the BrowZine API. ThirdIron provides screenshots, details, and troubleshooting information.

Here’s what the BrowZine integration with EBSCO EDS includes:

• Cover image provides a cohesive experience between EDS and BrowZine. Let ThirdIron know if you want BrowZine to be integrated into your Exact Match Placard in EDS. 
• Make sure "Show Publication Finder Exact Match Placard on EDS Result List" is selected in Viewing Publications tab.
• View Complete Issue link appears for results with a matching Direct Object Identifier (DOI) and takes users directly to the issue of the journal in which that article appears on the BrowZine interface. These links are triggered by articles rather than journal results. If no DOI is present matching can not occur. Users can add the title to My bookshelf in BrowZine.
• View Journal in BrowZine link as an enhancement to the results of the exact match Placard in EDS. It appears on journal results that takes users to the latest issue of that journal on the BrowZine interface. Option needs to be turned on in your EDS profile. Journals are linked by ISSN or EISSN.
• View Journal in BrowZine link to enhance Journal Search (Journal Finder) results in EDS. Takes user directly to the current issue of the journal rather than navigating different points of access offered through Full Text Finder. Journals are linked by either the ISSN or EISSN.
• LibKey Instant PDF link (EDS-BrowZine Direct to PDF custom link) appears for results with a matching Direct Object Identifier (DOI), linking the user directly to the PDF of the article on supported publisher platforms (if the library subscribes, and there’s no EBSCO Smartlink or Smartlink+). In other words this link appears whenever an EBSCOhost PDF is not otherwise available as the EBSCO "PDF Full Text." Otherwise these two links achieve the same effect of getting the user directly to the PDF document and would be redundant. If no direct route to the PDF is available the link will not appear.

Custom Links Configured as Part of Discovery Integration

These are usually configured by EBSCO as part of the discovery integration option with Third Iron. EBSCO asks that you do not change anything in these links other than the link text, or the link is likely to break.

• EDS-BrowZine Direct to PDF Link (AKA LibKey Instant PDF custom link): LibKey links should resolve to a pdf on the publisher’s site. Note: these will not show if there is EBSCO PDF or HTML Full Text available.     
• EDS-BrowZine: Links will often show as "View Complete Issue" and resolve to the BrowZine interface, with the specific article highlighted.
• BrowZine link in Holdings Management
• LibKey Instant PDF link in Holdings Management

LibKey Link

Once the integration work is completed LibKey will send you a unique LibKey link for your institution. You have the option to replace your current link resolver with your unique LibKey URL for a number of database vendors (general format https://libkey.io/libraries/[LibraryID]/openurl - [LibraryID] will be replaced with your ID).

• ThirdIron provides specific guidelines for common databases and participating publishers, including Google Scholar.

• If you opt to add a LiKey OpenURL custom link in EBSCOhost (for the databases NOT EDS), order the link so that the LibKey Open URL link appears after your full text links, but before your link resolver link.

PubMed Outside Tool

If you have Outside Tool set up for PubMed, log into Submission Utility for your institutional account and edit the Outside Tool Base URL by inserting your LibKey LibraryID into the Base URL field (https://libkey.io/libraries/[LibraryID]/pmid) and replace your link resolver.  

LibKey Nomad

LibKey.io

LibKey.io is a landing page that enables your users to find articles using a DOI or PMID. Some institutions integrate LibKey.io by adding an extra search box option on their websites using a custom search form or LibGuide.

BrowZine
