OPAL Help

How We Can Help

OhioNet staff serve as the systems librarians for the OPAL libraries and as the first line of support for Alma, Primo and related Ex Libris tools.  OhioNet staff also manage many processes and configurations on behalf of OPAL libraries and have critical insight in identifying solutions to problems.  Assistance also includes, but is not limited to questions about:

  • User record management and authentication
  • Electronic resource management
  • EBSCO, Springshare, and OCLC products
  • EZproxy
  • Integrations (Third Iron, NCBI/PubMed, EDI & real time ordering, OCLC World Share etc.)
  • OPAL best practices and streamlined workflows
  • Record delivery and data cleanup projects
  • OhioNet / OPAL Membership

OPAL Ex Libris Support Policy

Because OhioNet staff have important context about or familiarity with OPAL libraries, their history and how their systems have been configured to support their needs in most situations, OPAL library staff should direct any support requests to OhioNet prior to contacting Ex Libris or other parties. Time-sensitive issues, such as problems related to resource sharing requests, may be directed to Ex Libris support, OhioLINK, or the other OhioLINK library staff involved in the transaction.

In either case, OPAL library staff should:

  • Add opalhelp@ohionet.org to all Ex Libris-related tickets opened through the Proquest Support Center or through other providers’ portals;
  • Forward to opalhelp@ohionet.org the transcripts for all Ex Libris support chats;
  • Copy opalhelp@ohionet.org on other emails with outside parties related to Ex Libris system support issues and/or configurations.

Exceptions to the policy:

  • Questions or issues related to OhioLINK content should be directed to OhioLINK support.
  • General “how to” or “how do you” questions may be directed to the OPAL community through its email lists.

Please reach out if you have any questions!
