Circulation COI Updates - Fall 2023

Summary of the latest updates, best practice suggestions and decisions from the Circulation COI meetings and discussions:Circulation COI Updates

  • Student worker positions may be impacted by new FAFSA (fed work study calculations TBD) and January 2024 minimum wage increase to $10.45. Depending on the FWS award amounts (generally between $2,000-$2,500), current hours are about 6-7 each week with some institutions slightly higher at 8-12 hours. Some also have a budget for non work study students.

  • This is a good time to update Course Reserves and make sure they are accurate. Instructions for deletions can be found in the Circulation Manual. For record keeping you can create a list and print using the List Records function or download through the Export function. Looks like course records and linkages will migrate to Alma

  • Community borrowing approaches vary with many using creating custom cards and separate PTYPES. Making copy of driver's license comes in handy. The Clark County Public Library plans to set up a kiosk in the Wittenberg Library.

  • Migration news: John Carroll will be one of the Vanguard libraries participating in the 6-month test migration to Alma/Primo. Anticipate process will begin for everyone else around July 2024.

  • Next meeting: April 17, 2024 at 10:30am - Virtual.

The full meeting minutes can be found under the Meeting Documents tab.

Statement of Purpose

The OPAL Circulation COI is comprised of individuals who perform circulation related duties in their libraries within the consortium. Its mission is to create circulation related policies that are beneficial to both circulation staff and library users, to provide a valuable resource pool for system related questions and best practices, and to serve as a forum for networking within the consortium. This mission is achieved through regular meetings with open discussions of pertinent and relevant topics, with guidance from the OPAL staff members and the OPAL Directors’ Council.
